You’ve had a great run but I think it’s time to finally say goodbye

Kinja'd!!!

For those of you not in the know (which I’m assuming is like 75% of oppo lol) the logitech G27 has a very fatal flaw where the optical encoder (the thingie that tells the wheel where center is) is mounted right to the back of one of the force feedback motors and over time the vibrations and just general use the encoder will wear out/crack/split and then it’ll spin on the motor shaft and mess up the center. I could crack it open and fix it (which i’ve done before) but this thing is just old at this point that I think its time to let it gooooooooooooooooo

Having an almost brand-new g27... is there anything that can be done about the slop on-center? The deadband before I hit feedback feels like any car I drive has 200k miles on the rack.

I really think Logitech needs to make an updated version of the Wingman, same wheel design, but with more buttons and more rotation. My Wingman kicks ass and the only real problems I’ve had are a slightly cracked accelerator pedal and being able to accidentally press the paddles while squeezing the wheel.

There really is no one true fix for it but the best thing you can do is turn down the force feedback in the game/profiler and maybe turn up force feedback dampening if the game has it.

Thanks, I have it set to a realistic level but it’s still off-putting.

I did a ton of research before I bought this wheel, and honestly if I knew it was this sloppy I’d have gotten something else. Nowhere did I see mention of it having a huge deadband, until the day after I got it and was looking to see why it has a huge deadband... apparently it’s “known” for it.

Have you tried blocking the wheel with your hands in the center position if it doesn’t calibrate properly?

It does the inital calibration fine it’s just when I start using it that it messes up.

I’ve seen the brass encoders and I might go that route but at this point I think it’s time to upgrade to something better.

Well, I don’t know your budget, but I can’t recommend the T500RS, combined with ClubSport Pedals V3 and a VG TH8A, you get a properly nice setup for less than 1000$...

I’ve only tried the T500RS but I really loved it. Much higher quality and stronger/more precise FFB than the G27

That sucks. Does it happen with the G25 as well? I have one and I’m hoping it will last another couple years...

I picked up one of those a while back to have just in case I had the same issue as the OP, definitely worth while having on hand.
